“She weeps for all the sailors lost beneath her waves, yet her anger drags their ships down to the depths. Her temperance is unpredictable, and her wrath indomitable.”

She came out of the darkness shortly after her sister, Narunae, and it is said her beauty nearly rivals that of the Pale Lady of the Moon. She dwelled with the other divines for an age, assisting them in their endeavors. 

Her tears created the rivers of the world, for she was so joyed to see the creation of Marath. She then drowned herself beneath those waters and rose again, reborn. To defend her realms against the Outer Darkness, she was gifted a trident made of lightning by Yshanga, and she carries a shield made from the shell of the great black turtle Madon.

Appearance

She is often depicted as a young woman, with skin the color of the sea, and pale hair flowing in an unseen breeze. She wears a dress made of the sails of sunken ships and a necklace made of shells.

Other times, she is seen riding upon the back of a three-headed sea serpent named Shakhora, and carrying a trident made of lightning, and a great turtle shield. It is in this aspect that she rages as the Tempest, bringing death and destruction. 

Her symbol is three spirals bound together.

Followers

Her followers are predominantly sailors, fishermen, and those who make their living from the seas. Often they will gather on the beach during low tide, wearing blue robes and singing praises to Ghesheya.

Common Practices

Followers of Ghesheya will often weave small shells into their hair and clothing, and decorate their living spaces with treasures taken from the sea. Those who live further inland will often substitute river rocks for shells.

Before a ship goes out to sea, Her adherents will often make small offerings to her, generally pouring a swallow of wine or other alcohol into the water. For longer voyages, on the night before a journey, her followers will burn offerings of flowers and sweet-smelling herbs on the beach and pour the ashes into the water.
